Day 279 – October 6, 2018

(OK, so they aren’t raindrops, they’re leaves, but go with me on this one) It is getting tough getting these in under the wire.  Especially when I have not clue what I want to feature.  So day 2 of our trip and we are still in Ohio visiting family.  We will be here one more day before heading southwest bright and early Monday morning.  While staying with my brother, I got to see two of my nephews, who I haven’t seen since their weddings.  They both have started add on to the family name and I got to meet, and interact with, three of my, I have no idea what the family term is but they still call me Uncle so I guess they would be, second nephews and nieces.  It always is an amazing experience seeing these kids, who weren’t my own, grow up and become parents themselves.  I guess it’s kind of preparing me for my kids doing that to me.  It sure does sound weird hearing my brother called “Papa” by the kids.  It moves so fast.  Watching my daughter win the 3 kids hearts really is a dose of reality.  She has always been great with kids, but there is something about it when you realize they agent too far off from it themselves.  So tonight, while visiting with the nephews and families, one turned on the halloween lights to show the kids (all 4 and under).  Watching their eyes light up when the pumpkins came on, and then giggle when they saw the illusions of witches and ghosts, dancing across the garage, was as if I were looking through the window at the past, and brought it all back.  There they were jovial and playing in the pile of leaves, cousins making the “leaves rainfall” and having the time of their lives.  It is amazing the circle that life takes you on.  It was just yesterday where I was playing with the nephews in their leaves,   and this afternoon when the Nephews were playing with my kids in the leaves, and then tonight watching my daughter play with the little ones.  It’s quite a journey. And this journey within a journey is a a collection of incredible memories. Past and present.  Hoping you have a great Sunday.  Stay safe.
I had to add a few more pictures from the kids tonight. So fun.  Oh and the poem the photos speak of, by Shel Silverstein of course!

  1. Windows into the past – thank you for taking us to the magic of it all. I don’t have any grandchildren, and I don’t expect to get any. but your words and pictures, and the poem going with it, tell of a loving story. Still it must be great to know, that the children will keep the wheel of life going!

    1. That is such a heartwarming comment. Thank you so much.
I keep telling my daughter she has to give me a grand baby (later of course) because I joke with her that it’s because her brothers won’t. 😉

  2. For our Weekly Prompts ‘Work of Art challenge I can’t think of anything more appropriate than these small children. Beautiful!
Just so you know, They’re second cousins to your daughter and the term for you is ‘Great Uncle ‘ which makes them your great nephews! Makes you feel old doesn’t it?
My older brother has just become a great grandfather which makes me a ‘great great aunt’ ! Now that makes me feel positively ancient! Thanks again for linking to us. 🙂

    1. Well Thank you!! I was worried the work of art wouldn’t work 😕 I had a feeling that’s how it goes but I really never knew if it was proper or not. It’s crazy. (And what’s more feeling old is that I turn the 5-0 on Tuesday. 😢 So fast.

      1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.
I have to admit that turning 50 was my most depressing birthday too. You’ll get over it and in the meantime have a super birthday! 🙂
