Day 123 – May 3, 2018
I have to be honest, based on where we were yesterday, where we were this morning and then this afternoon, I felt it was highly unlikely, based on my observations, that we were going to be able to pull this show off. Perhaps it was because we did not have any audience response throughout the process. We had no idea how the audience was going to react, whether they’d laugh or even when they would, but based on the sound and frequency of laughter from our audience, the kids pulled it off. I don’t even know why I doubt them anymore, this last minute everything comes together shit, but it happens. It happens quite a lot. I’m not saying that the show wasn’t flawed, perfect or any thing close, but the audience doesn’t know what we know. That’s something that I really haven’t grasped a hold of, because my blood pressure still rises at the smallest details that have been rehearsed and are expected. But then again maybe I’m just setting my ways. Tonight’s show marked the very first showed that I ever musically conducted, and I use that in the loosest of terms. The shot is my vantage point from my conductor stand. The pit is to my right. The space is small and very intimate. But the show worked in this theatre. In any case, one down two to go! Now we can ride this wave through to the end of the year. Then finally some smooth sailing, which is something that cannot happen soon enough.
