Day 59 – February 28, 2018
Out of this world! It was very ironic, yet fortunate for me, that the phrase was this weeks photo challenge. I had to take some equipment to a local business to have them repaired. The business is located where it is very easy to see the top of the control tower from the entrance to the building. Once I saw the tower, I knew where I was headed after dropping off my equipment. I wanted to get photos from our little airport, that happens to be a landing pad for past presidents, in order to complete the trip to Camp David (a favorite retreat of many former Presidents). It also serves as a landing pad for Michelins Blimp when it is in town for Pimlico or the Nationals golf tournament at TPC Potomac (formerly TPC Avenel). It is a small airport, but large enough to have to build a bigger, better control tower. The challenge was to share a picture that takes us on a journey to the unknown. I believe this captures that and the imagination pretty accurately. There are no departure or arrival boards here, so unless your a passenger or the pilot, or the control tower employee, there’s no way to know where the three planes are flying to, arriving from or charting the next journey. They are all unknown. While I was shooting a number of take-offs and landings, I found myself imagining the many destinations I would be flying to or coming back from. But then a large part of me just imagined myself on that yellow bird, with no planned location in mind. Just journeying to the unknown. Bon Voyage!
