Day 57 – February 26, 2018

I wasn’t exactly sure where I was going to go with my post today.  I knew what I was going to post, because I knew what I was doing tonight and I just needed to get the picture.  But then as I was looking at the pictures I kind of got stuck.  So I went to The Daily Post for todays word in hopes on getting some inspiration.  Imagination.  If you have read any of the past few posts you would know that this was right up my alley.  I am very fortunate to work in a field which demands imagination, creativity and passion to thrive.  And what is a bigger bonus is that on some nights, tonight and a couple of others in the last few days, I get to color in what someone has already drawn.  The academy where I teach has added dance to our fine arts department.  The instructor is a colleague who I had always hoped I’d get to work with.  In fact, when it was announced last spring that we were adding dance, I knew it had to be hers.  In just 5 months she has provided students with opportunities and experiences that have earned some very positive recognition for her dancers and the program.  Tonight, after only those 5 months, her dancers performed their first recital, complete with 8 choreographed pieces.  I was honored to be able to fill in what her imagination had already sketched out with lighting.  Lighting for the arts isn’t always the most exciting.  But when it comes to the stage, well consider the stage a painters canvas.  One of the design elements of lighting is reflecting the mood of a piece.  The work that was provided to me to color in, was born from imagination. The stories they told reflected a wide range moods, feelings and reflections. To draw attention away from the piece, has the potential to ruin the piece.  Reinforcing the mood while changing colors and scenes is a delicate balance.  A balance that is much more effective using ones imagination.  Thanks for bearing with me.  It has been a long day!  Peace.
