Day 53 – February 22, 2018
Coming in just in time tonight. After sorting through a crazy amount of pictures the difficult task of choosing one to hi light here was very difficult. Difficult until I saw the WDW which was Assay. There are a number of definitions for this word so I am opting to use the one that is demonstrated the best through the lens. Tonight was our annual school wide talent show, which also serves as one of our main fundraisers. 20 acts competed for awards and recognition through the school. It is a wonderful event for the a very diverse group of individuals, many of whom have never performed in front a large audience, let alone any audience, before tonight. I get a lot of enjoyment at seeing all of these kids encourage, congratulate, appreciate and respect each other and, at least for a moment, come together and share memories that they will fondly look back on. For many it is their “15 minutes”, or rather, as per our guidelines, 3 minutes of fame. But I digress. Assay, to judge the quality of; assess; evaluate, or to try or test; put to trial: attempt. What a more perfect example. The talent, attempting or trying something new, stepping out of their comfort zone . The judges, assessing and evaluating said talent. Either one assaying their own ability or the abilities of others. Both of which I am happy to leave for them to do, for at least one night, as I proudly watch and enjoy each of their “3 minutes.” Have an amazing Friday!
