Field of Seams

The county in which I work now has 10 high schools, four of which have been built during my tenure in the system.  The new schools, of course, have progressively gotten much better in terms of architecture and equipment.  Their sports fields have, as well, improved with each new school.  This school was opened 3 years ago and, as a result, can boast of having an artificial turf field, not only as their main stadium, but here on the practice field as well.  I personally think it puts some of the other schools at a  disadvantage, but most coaches don’t seem to mind it and prefer the natural playing fields.  June 19, 2012

  1. I thought most of the research shows that there are fewer playing field injuries on natural grass as opposed to artificial turf. I could probably name forty or fifty stadiums that went from artificial turf to natural grass because if the injury factor.

    1. I did too which is why I was surprised to see this trend. However, I will say, my school opted to go with resodding with a natural grass rather than artificial when this summer. Which I think is the smarter move.
