Mount a Defense

Stormin the Castle

One of the most picturesque places I went last year II actually took a bunch of shots there) is the campus of Mount Saint Mary’s.  The campus sits perched in the mountainside, and I pass it every day to and from work.  As I drove by today, I ventured off onto the campus, and somehow ended up here, where I found this anti aircraft gun. I shot from many angles, but ultimately ended up with this black and white shot, which I like very much.

In honor of its service to the armed forces training programs, the school was presented with a 3-inch/ 50-caliber anti-aircraft gun from the USS Detroit—a ship credited with one downed and one assisted downed aircraft during the battle at Pearl Harbor. The gun has sat in this spot since 1948. Thought that was a useful bit of trivia for a monday.  June 18, 2012.
