Snake in the Grass

Lake May, which is the first lake you see when you come into the Valley from route 16, is perhaps the largest lake in Carroll Valley.  Walking along its banks, I wasn’t surprised to find this little guy floating along, looking like a twig.  His head is deceptively small, as I managed to see the rest of it and was pretty surprised by how long and thick it was.  This guy appears to be a northern water snake, but according to pa herp identification, they aren’t located in our area.
